Trees

Northwestern Oregon has some of the best conditions in the country for growing young nursery stock, and wonderfully fertile soils are found in the northern Willamette Valley.

With a mild climate and rich volcanic soil, just about anything will grow here, and in abundance. Soft rains during much of the year and plentiful irrigation water from Hagg Lake during dry summer months keep our fields moist and insures the steady growth of our trees.

In late spring, our trusted grafters deliver grafted root stock in small 4" liners, which we hold in shade houses until fall planting into the field. Some are repotted into larger containers and kept for another year to develop stronger roots. These robust plants are then carefully hand-planted in our rich river bottom soil alongside the Tualatin River outside Gaston, Oregon, where they are nurtured for five or more years. After getting a good start here in Oregon, the trees are strong enough to withstand harsher climates when they are planted in other sections of the country.

Once the trees are sold, our field crew digs them by hand and wraps the roots securely in burlap for shipping in refrigerated trucks to customers in both near and distant parts of the United States and Canada. We ship most of our trees in the spring, but fall shipping is becoming more popular and we can accommodate our buyers according to their needs and climate. Some container-grown maples are available year-round.
